Contemporary interiors, large open light rooms, no dark corridors here, just a fabulous hall space from which all the double doors open. It’s only a 6 minute drive to the bustling town of Bowness with all its lake shore activity, boat rides, shops, restaurants and night life, and of equal distance to calmer places; such as the lovely Swan hotel, with its health spa and pool, and its fabulous outdoor waters edge dining.
Eskdale House has the rare privilege of being perfectly private. It has its own sweeping, lit driveway, under which the owners have already laid cable for you to add electric gates if you wish.
The kitchen here is such an amazing space, with its high vaulted ceiling and simple, white, contemporary, deep drawer units, topped with their white, solid stone work surfaces. The wall of chrome fitted Italian SMEG appliances will give you food for thought, quite literally. Here the morning sun floods in from the French doors and through the long wall of windows, gently warming the fossil stone floor under your bare, toasty-warm feet (no need to turn on the underfloor heating today!) Why not take your coffee, freshly brewed from the in-built Italian coffee machine, out onto the kitchen patio. From here you can watch the birds enjoy their breakfast on the feeder. Even the rain doesn’t put nature off here; light the big AGA log burner and put your feet up on the long window seat and watch the rabbits flit across the lawn, or perhaps you will be lucky enough to witness the thrill of a baby deer being born right underneath the tree outside, as the current owner did!
From the whole of the lake view side of the house, you can see the most amazing sunsets… the owners says; “Sometimes it’s like the sky is on fire, You just HAVE to take a photograph.” These sunsets flood the lounge and south-west facing terraces with warm golden light and it’s wonderful to cuddle up and watch the changing colour of the lake.
Throw all the double doors open in the summer months and toss your own plentiful supply of logs into the log burners when winter comes. Nestle down on the sofa for a night with Netflix… of course, the distraction of the gleaming lake in the background and a baby deer walking past the window perhaps, could test your concentration… what a chore!
Before we venture to the two upstairs bedrooms, take a peep into the two downstairs. Both are again ensuite and offer the most glorious views out over the lush green gardens, lake and fells beyond. Will you choose one of these spaces to be your office? What better location to work from than your own home, with a view of the lake from your desk, and a private door through from the side of your house – perfectly private for work visitors.
When it’s time for your lunch break why not stride up the fells from your door and enjoy your own private picnic in blissful solitude, with only the sheep for company, whilst taking in the beguiling views of the Langdale Pikes and a 180 degree view of the lake.
Upstairs the master bedroom is vast yet cosy, with such a beautiful view of the lake and mountains. Room for a sofa, a yoga area, a wall of wardrobes and a walk-in closet with shoe racks. The owners have no need for curtains, such is the privacy they never close the blinds.
For kids, it doesn’t get much better than right here in this amazing, safe space. Watching your children running around their own incredible private land (with several big strong trees crying out for a treehouse and a swing !) How about a family game of boules or croquet on the lawn out front, or put the picnic rug down amongst the blushing pink peonies, cherry blossom and Magnolia. With large natural rock areas and the sweet scent of wild heather, the gardens encapsulate each season in a breathtaking abundance of variety and colour.
