Savour the famous gingerbread at Sarah Nelson's, sample the delicacies of the many cafes and bistros, or upgrade your gear at the many mountain shops nearby. Familiarise yourself with the local historical sites including Dove Cottage, home to William Wordsworth or incant his most famous poem 'Daffodils' by his grave in the local churchyard.

Dine out at Michelin starred restaurant Forest Side, or the eclectically styled Jumble Rooms, or feast on Cumbrian classics at The Yan bistro at Broadrayne. Sample the local brew at the Good Sport, home of the Grasmere Brewery. The Grand Hotel on Red Bank Road is the perfect spot for a bite to eat on the walk home from a day on the fells.
