Don’t Put Your Home in the Shade

Don’t put your home in the shade blogpost by AshdownJones estate agents in the Lakes and Dales

When your home is about to go on the market, having the photography shoot can be an exciting – and daunting – process.

There’s a simple step you can add to make sure the photographs of the outside of your home look as lovely as they deserve to.

All you need to do is make sure the photographer arrives to capture the sunshine on the front of your house.

Now, our lovely British weather won’t always accommodate your hopes for actual sunshine, but even on a cloudy day, having the daylight coming from behind your house can throw your front into shadow, which can make even the prettiest of homes look dreary and unwelcoming.

We equate the idea of ‘home’ with a warm, light, welcoming image, and capturing this will make sure that buyers click on your Rightmove advert, and are enticed enough to book a viewing.

So if you haven’t already put your home on the market, or you’ve started the process but you have yet to have your photoshoot, check if the time matches the daylight on the front of your house. If not, ask to change it to a time when it is.

And if your house is on the market already, take a critical look at your front photo: does it do your home justice? Is it shaded and grey, or bright and welcoming? If you don’t like it, ask your estate agent to arrange a new shoot to re-take your front shot.

Or even better, ask us to!
